Julie's 2nd Ride

What to do on an awesome Sunday in NE Ohio? Take a ride to Peninsula and ride hilly Rt. 303 the whole way out.

Julie and I (yes, I said Julie and I) hitched up the bike around noon or so and headed towards Peninsula, OH. For those that aren’t familiar with Peninsula, it’s a quaint little village and an entrance to the Cuyahoga National Recreation area http://www.explorepeninsula.com/page.aspx?ID=101 , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peninsula,_Ohio
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuyahoga_Valley_National_Park

Surprisingly Julie was pretty quiet on the way out to Peninsula and seemed to enjoy being “off the grid” for a while. It’s amazing how riding a bike can take you to a different place, you really feel like for those minutes or hours that you’re riding that you are in a different place. The fact that you can’t talk on the phone, text or Twitter while riding a bike is kind of refreshing, it’s one of the last places on earth that this can happen. Even planes are now starting to have wi-fi…there is not getting away.

After coming into Peninsula, I made a quick left and headed over towards the “ski resorts”. I put this in quotes, because they’re more like small hills than actual resorts, but I guess if you’re a skier, you can at least get a quick fix. We proceeded to go to the Winking Lizard https://winkinglizard.com/data/content/peninsula.asp, had lunch and jumped back on the bike and headed for home.

While not the most exciting ride that I’ve had, it was a good ride for a number of reasons; it got me used to having a passenger for an extended period of time, almost 80 miles. It got Julie used to sitting for extended periods of time, which was amazing. It go us both ready to take on some of the rides that Sturgis is going to have to offer. It also gave us some downtime while the kitchen is being renovated. Who knew that renovation could be so stressful?

Sturgis Update:
Interestingly enough, there seems to be life again at Glencoe, I received an e-mail that told me that there was now a “Not So Early Reservation Special”, it dropped the price on all items…..hmmmm must be having a hard time filling sites? Hopefully I’ll start seeing some of the bands that’ll be playing. I’m going to look around on some of the forums and see what the deal is with projected attendance.
